The truth behind these surgical strike sentiments are not developed when 2016 and 2019 surgical strike happened. Actually, it is in our heart and in our Bollywood since 2003. Our Bollywood is praised all over the world, because of its different genre movies. Whether it be mythology, history, romance, horror, Sci-Fi, story on soldiers or be it surgical strike movies, we have all of them in our Bollywood.
Let us see the list of these most popular surgical-strike movies that are winning our heart since 2003, right from the Zameen.
The first film to tackle this was “Zameen” in 2003. The movie was based on the IC-814 hijacking, the movie saw an army officer and a policeman, Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan, respectively. It is based on the rescue event when Pakistan terrorist hijacks the plane in Pak-occupied-Kashmir and nab the mastermind Baba Zaheer.
After the film, Indian cinema didn’t attempt anything on the topic, until Nikhil Advani hadn’t come with his movie in 2013- D-Day. The director told about how he got the idea “The idea of 'D-Day' germinated when the US went to get Osama Bin Laden on May 2, 2011. So when I was driving from my house to my office, my driver asked me that if the USA can do this, why can’t India do it, why can’t we bring Dawood Ibrahim? When I reached the office, all my assistants were on social media at that time and the only question doing the rounds was why couldn’t India do it? So what occurred to me was whether it was someone like my chauffeur, who was completely uneducated, or my assistants, who were graduates from FTII, Jamia, the conversation was the same. The question, the thought resonated across social and class structures. There was this whole notion of why does India tend to not retaliate or not do what is possible.”
In 2015 a film starring Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu- Baby was released and made a huge impact on the minds of the audience. The Neeraj Pandey made the audience to saw a film based on an Indian task force capture and bring back Pak-based terror mastermind Maulana from Dubai to India.
The same year in 2015, a movie with name Phantom came on screen, the movies were based on the after-attack of the 26/11 for justice. In the movie, a team of RAW and army operation operatives get together to bring the perpetrators and planners of the Mumbai attack 26/11 to India. Makers also used real names in the movie such as- David Headly and with a little tweaking of some names.
And now, in 2019, a movie came out on the big-screen-Uri. The movie cast Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam for the main lead, and it shows all the planning and strategy that Indian intelligence and soldiers made together for a surgical strike (literally, they get into the terrorist house and take out the militants. It tells the story of the 11 tumultuous events over which the operation was carried out.
