Armando, Belgium’s best long-distance racing pigeon, was become the reason for a bidding war between two Chinese buyers. As we got the news that Armando who is originally from Belgium, recently auctioned for ₹9.7 Crores, it has broken all the previous records. Before Armando, it was Nadine who auctioned for ₹2.9 Crores, but Armando the fastest pigeon bought by a Chinese buyer worth ₹9.7 Crores.
It is such a huge amount, you must be thinking that why the pigeon auctioned for this much right? Due to his speed, Armando has often dubbed the Lewis Hamilton (F1 world champion) of a pigeon.
The Belgian site Pigeon Paradise said,
“Earlier this week it became clear that Armando would be the most expensive pigeon ever sold in an online auction. However, no one expected that the magical cap of a million euros would be pulverized.”
It is not revealed yet that who is the buyer of the pigeon, but as per the reports, the man was Chinese. The pigeon was just one among the 178 pigeons that were sold by a respected Belgian breeder named Joel Verschoot.
Verschoot’s stable for his pigeons is based in Ingelmunster, west of Belgium. A report came in front showing that the family has sold the pigeons for the total sum of the selling price of ₹15.6 crores. These pigeons are raced by releasing them hundreds of kilometer away from their home, and the one who comes back home first wins.
Pigeon racing is a tradition in Belgium, Britain, northern France and the Netherlands. Though previously there was a decline from Chinese buyers, it is rapidly increasing.
