It’s the case with almost everyone out there that whenever their favorite track comes up they tend to take volume completely up. For some, music brings concentration and helps them to focus on what they’re doing and for the others, it helps to stimulate the mood. But the sad fact is, listening to loud music through headphones can cause permanent loss of hearing. Hearing loss is on the rise in especially among teens and young adults across the globe. Science suggests, a person should not listen to music or be exposed to any noise at or above 85 decibels for more than 8 hours at a time.

Here are five steps to keep yourself safe from any sort of hearing imperfections:
1. Prevent listening to music for more than an hour a day
Give your ears some rest from your earphones, they cannot take the burden of loud music all day long. Do not listen to music for more than 60 minutes a day. Your hearing health is important as well.

2. Get headphones that cut the noise
Do not even think of compromising with your headphones, spend some extra money and buy a nice noise cutting headphones. These headphones don’t allow the noise from the surrounding to get in and allow you to hear the music more clearly. That’s how you don’t even have to turn up the volume.

3. Keep the volume below 60 percent of the maximum
As a matter of fact, you music system can produce 100 decibels or more. Listening to music at such level can cause hearing loss very soon. Always keep the volume of your music player at 60% of the maximum volume.

4. Use over-the-ear headphones
Over-the-ear headphones rest at the top of your ears rather than inside the ears. Such a type of earphone causes less harm as compared to the normal earplugs. Over the ear headphones do not send sound vibrations directly into the eardrum affecting it less.

5. Avoid using earphones in a loud surrounding
This is one major point which has to be kept in mind. Whenever we tend to be in a noisy surrounding and don’t too hear our music properly we turn the volume up totally. This can aid in hearing loss. Wait until you are in a quiet area so that you can enjoy music properly.
