Rajasthan Royals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by three wickets in the 43rd match of the IPL. For the facts, Rajasthan won a match at the Eden Gardens after 11 years. On the other hand, this is the sixth consecutive defeat for Kolkata.

Rajasthan reached the target of 176 runs set by Kolkata in just 19.2 overs at the loss of seven wickets. For Rajasthan, 17 years old Riyan Parag, scored 47 runs. Ajinkya Rahane (34) and Jopra Archer contributed 27 runs.

With this win, Rajasthan reclaimed the 7th position on the points table which RCB had earlier snatched from it beating Punjab. This was Rajasthan’s 4th win in 11 matches.

Kolkata has also won only 4 matches in 11 games played. With eight points, Kolkata is at sixth place. To maintain the hopes of reaching the playoffs, both the teams have to win in the remaining three matches.

Earlier, Rajasthan’s opener Rahane and Sanju Samson gave the team a strong start. Both shared a 53-run partnership for the first wicket. Samson (22) was dismissed by Piyush. Steve Smith scored two runs off Naren’s delivery. Chawla dismissed both Ben Stokes (11) and Stuart Binny (11). Shreyas Gopal (18) was dismissed by Prasidha Krishna. Parag and Archer added 44 runs for the seventh wicket. Parag was dismissed by Russell in a hit wicket.

Kolkata scored 175 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 97 not out. He hit seven fours and nine sixes in the 50-ball innings. This was his 18th fifty. Varun Aaron took two wickets for Rajasthan.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and decided to bowl. Opener Chris Lynn returned to the pavilion without opening the account. He was bowled by Varun Aaron. Shubhman Gill (14) was also dismissed by Aaron. Shreyas Gopal sent Nitish Rana (21) to the pavilion. Sunil Narine (11) runs out of the run Andre Russell (14) was dismissed by Oshen Thomas. Jaydev Unadkat sent the pavilion to Carlos Brathwaite (5).
