Delhi University is planning to reach the trans community to guide them to apply for various courses Delhi University incoming academic year. Delhi university's transgender resource centre was established in the north campus of Delhi University in 2018. No transgender student has applied for the course since Delhi university has introduced the third gender category in 2015.
Department of Adult, Continuing Education and extension, from where this transgender resource centre is operated Said that the idea is not working to inviting transgender students. So, the centre is trying a new idea to reach them directly in their neighbourhoods. The transgender resource centre is now identifying the address of transgender so they could organise a camp which will provide information about admissions in Delhi University and coax them to do a regular course which will help them in long run.
Delhi university receives an application from transgender students every year, but no one enrolled in regular courses university receive few applications of transgender students the previous year. Some of the transgender students prefer to go to School of open learning where they don't need to go to college.
Now Delhi university does not allow transgender women to apply for admissions in girl's college but they can enrol in the co-ed course. Delhi high court is also helping in these issues and giving direction to Delhi university and CBSE to allow transgender students to change their name and gender in educational certificates. Hopefully, this change can bring some gesture in the transgender community.
