Delhi Capitals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 16 runs in the 46th match of IPL on the Ferozeshah Kotla ground. Bengaluru team became the world’s third team to lose 100 T20 matches after Middlesex 112 and Derbyshire 101.
Both teams play T20 leagues in England. With this defeat, the Bangalore team playoff hopes ended. On the other hand, the Delhi team reached the playoffs.
Delhi, batting first, won the toss and scored 187 for 5 in 20 overs. The Bengaluru team could only manage 171 runs in 7 overs in 20 overs. For Banglore, Parthiv Patel scored the highest score of 39 runs. Mark Stones scored an unbeaten 32.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers failed to play big innings for Bangalore, Kohli-Devilliers could not play big innings. Kohli 27, Gurkeerat Singh Mann 27, Shivam Dubey 24, AB de Villiers 17 and Henriques Klassen scored three runs. Kagiso Rabada and Amit Mishra took two wickets each for Delhi. Ishant Sharma, Akshar Patel, and Rutherford get one each. Ishant also completed his 100 wickets in T20 cricket.
Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer scored 52 and Shikhar Dhawan scored 50 runs. Sherwood Rutherford scored 28 off 13 balls and Akshar Patel scored 16 runs off 9 balls. Both shared a 46-run partnership in 19 balls. Yugavendra Chahal took two wickets for Bengaluru. Umesh Yadav, Washington Sunder, and Navdeep Saini got one success.
Dhawan scored his 5th and an ovearll 37th half-century of the season. Prior to the dismissal, Dhawan shared a 68-run partnership with Aiyar for the second wicket. Prithvi Shaw scored 18 runs off Umesh Ball. He was caught by wicketkeeper Parthiv. Rishabh Pant (7) was dismissed by Chahal. Colin Ingram (11), Navdeep sent the pavilion.
