The Board of Control for India has nominated three male and one female cricketer's name for the Arjuna Award 2019. Arjuna Award is a reputable honor which is given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India to the athletes in the achievement of various level of games.
The nominated names for this year ‘Arjuna Award’ are Poonam Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami. But in 2018 only one cricketer who wins Arjuna Award was the vice-caption of women's T20I team Smriti Mandhana. Till now total 53 cricketers have been honored with Arjuna Award, Saleem Durani was the first one to honor with Arjuna Award in 1961.
The nominees for the award
Poonam Yadav- Poonam has a defined consistency. She is leg-break bowler, she debuts in international cricket in 2013 against Bangladesh. Till date she has played in 41 ODIs, 54T20I and 1Test matches and has 140 international wickets on her name.
Jasprit Bumrah- A product of the IPL Bumrah has achieved tremendous success in the last few years as Indian pacers. Started off with White-ball cricketer in 2018 Bumrah has achieved much success in test matches in overseas and end year with 48 wickets at an average of 21.02. Till now he has played in 10Tests, 49ODIs and 42T20Is and has 185 wickets on his name. He is No.1 ODI bowler in ICC ranking.
Mohammed Shami- The right-arm fast bowler has to fight back from his personal troubles and fitness concerns, But still he is a top performer for the Indian team. He has played 40Tests, 63ODIs and 7T20Is till now and he has 235 wickets in his international carrier.
Ravindra Jadeja- The all-rounder has debuted in international cricket in 2009. Till date, he has played in 41Tests, 151ODIs, and 40T20Is matches. There are 400 wickets on his name and also make valuable contributions with the bat.
