Cyclone Fani is continuing to gain strength while it moves northwestwards towards the eastern coast. Acting upon it, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued warning to coastal districts to Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.

On Monday, Fani was located at about 870 Km South-east of Chennai in Tamil Nadu and 1,040 km southeast of Machilipuram in Andhra Pradesh at 8:30 am on Monday as per the update by the Weather department.

The IMD stated that Fani has moved northwest towards the eastern coast of India at a speed of 4 Kmph during the last six hours. The IMD has been continuously tracking its path since the Cyclone was formed last week. As per the officials, it would intensify into a ‘Severe’ Cyclonic Storm by evening. It might become ‘highly severe’ during the subsequent 24 hours. The situation might remain like this till Wednesday Evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took it to his twitter. He notified he urged the State Government to take measures.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that they are in continuous touch with the state governments, and the concerned central agencies. They added that the National Disaster Response Force and Indian Coast Guard have been put on high alert.

Citizens have been advised to take safety measures, as strong winds of 160-170 kmph to 185 kmph would rout through the coastal areas in north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh coasts from Wednesday evening when it would be the strongest.
