Running is good for health and picking up litter is good for environmental health and when you combine them both, there develops the idea of ‘Plogging’, picking up the trash while you are jogging. This new eco-friendly fitness trend is certainly the latest one hitting across the world to save the environment.
Tracing back the history of ‘Plogging’ and how it was started it has been come to known that it started as an organized activity in Sweden in 2016 and the idea has been spreading across the globe ever since 2018, owing to the increasing concerns regarding ‘Plastic pollution’.
Erik Ahlström, who moved to Stockholm from a small ski-community in northern Sweden, was frustrated by the trash he sees around. So he would engage for weeks in cleaning the place and felt very happy doing the same. What started as a routine activity later, he turned into an organised event by making a Facebook Page and inviting the volunteers to join him in the sweeping mission.
The idea thus made a global reach where recently it was proposed to be included as part of the Olympic event at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. American No 1 plant-based beverage is rallying for making this big change.
How the idea is more beneficial than a normal running:
When you pick up the trash while running, you certainly have to bend, which puts more pressure on your knees. Thus there is more variation in body movements like squatting, bending and stretching.
Thus, if you haven’t witnessed the people carrying the trash bags while jogging you might soon because it is becoming one of the crazy fitness trends.
