It’s been years and years that RK Studio becomes the internal part for the Bollywood industry and for the Kapoor family, many biggest hits were shot on the sets of the studio. Raj Kapoor had spent his life in it, but now it is no more owned by the Kapoor family as Godrej Industry has bought it.
It is not an immediate action taken by the Kapoors, actually, it is the deal which was already done many months ago.
“Spread across 2.2 acres, this project will offer 33,000 square meters (0.35 million square feet) of the saleable area comprising modern residential apartments of various configurations as well as a luxury retail experience” on buying the iconic studio the statement made by Godrej Properties.
On Talking about the sale of RK Studio to Godrej Properties, Randhir Kapoor said in an interview that, “We had done this deal six months ago. Everything is finalized. RK Studios has been a big part of the Kapoor family, and it was time to move on.” After this much of statement, the actor refused to give any further details.
Kapoor family declared it selling decision in 2018 after the studio’s main shooting floor caught in the fire and destroyed all that memorable items from the hits of RK Studio that the family has preserved from years. It includes old posters, the puppets from Mera Naam Joker (1970), the tramp shoes from Awara (1951) and several costumes. The Kapoors also said that rebuilding of the studio would cost highly expensive to them, whereas returns still stayed minimal.
The studio was found by Raj Kapoor back in 1948 and gave so many hits in the 50s and 70s.
