You are not really new to the egoistic, sadistic, narcissist and all those people around bordering on the lines of psychopathy. These characteristics possess something with a dark side which is common in all of them. A new study has brought in front their behavioral traits and one thing which is possessed by them all.

While your friend is someone who does not miss an opportunity to put you in some trouble he/she may not be considered a full-grown psychopath, but scientists have come out with a link between the two and the trait is not so uncommon as you may like to believe.
A study conducted at the University of Copenhagen concluded that people with a dark patch in their personality have a tendency of putting their own interest over others. Another trait was of extracting pleasure from seeing others in pain. That’s psychopathy for sure!

The most dominant tendency among them is called the dark triad, which takes into account traits like lacking empathy (psychopathy), heavily absorbed in self (narcissism) and believing that the final results justify the means (Machiavellianism). It is also known as the D-factor.This suggests that if you possess one of the above traits, you may have a dark side hidden in you too.

The lead researcher shared, "The dark aspects of human personality also have a common denominator, which means that — similar to intelligence — one can say that they are all an expression of the same dispositional tendency. For example, in a given person, the D-factor can mostly manifest itself as narcissism, psychopathy or one of the other dark traits, or a combination of these. But with our mapping of the common denominator of the various dark personality traits, one can simply ascertain that the person has a high D-factor.”
