On Wednesday, 8th May, Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 2 wickets in the IPL Eliminator match. This was the first time that Delhi won a knockout match. Earlier, Delhi had to face defeat four times in the knockout stage. With this win, Delhi reached Qualifier 2 and will face Chennai on May 10.
In this match, Delhi won the toss and decided to bowl. Hyderabad, batting first, scored 162 for 8 in 20 overs. Delhi’s team won the match by scoring 165 runs in 8 overs in 19.5 overs. For Delhi, Rishabh Pant (49 off 21 balls) and Prithvi Shaw (56 not out) played a game-changing knock. Pant was awarded the Man of the Match award. This match was played at Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Going to pursue the goal, Delhi started fast. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw shared 66 runs for the first wicket. Dhawan scored 17 runs off 16 balls. Deepak Hooda sent him to the pavilion. Captain Shreyas Iyer became the victim of Khalil Ahmed by making 8 runs. Colin Munro (14) and Akshar Patel (0) were dismissed by Rashid Khan for two consecutive balls. Sherfen Rutherford (9) was caught by Bhuvneshwar at the hands of the prophet. For Hyderabad, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, and Khalil Ahmed took two wickets each.
Earlier, Martin Guptill scored 36 runs for Hyderabad. Vijay Shankar contributed 25 off 11 balls and Mohammad Nabi contributed 20 runs in 13 balls. Keemo Paul took three wickets for Delhi. Ishant Sharma has two successes.
For Hyderabad, Vijay Shakar and Mohammad Nabi scored quick runs in the last over. Both shared a 36-run partnership with 16 balls. During this Shankar made two more prophets and a six. Shankar was caught by Trent Bolt at the hands of Akshar Patel. Paul was out of the prophet Deepak Hooda 4 and Rashid Khan returned the pavilions without opening the account. Bhuvneshwar Kumar 0 and Basil Thampi remained unbeaten after scoring 1 run.
