The doors of Kedarnath temple opened on Thursday. Hundreds of pilgrims were present before the opening of the doors. Chaar dham yatra started with the opening of the gate of Gangotri and Yamunotri on 7th May. It will last six months. The doors of Badrinath opened today. There is a Chardham yatra in summer every year in Uttarakhand. These four places (Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath) are sacred. About Badrinath Temple also descriptions are found in Skanda Purana and Vishnu Purana. The Vedic period of Badrinath temple (1750-500 BC) also exists in the Puranas about the existence of it. According to some assumptions, here even after the 8th century, Adi Shankaracharya built a temple.
According to the Puranas, King Bhagirath had brought Ganga to Earth. Gangotri is considered to be the birthplace of Mother Ganges. Regarding the Ganga temple, it is said that Gorkha ruled Kumaon-Garhwal from 1790 to 1815. During this time Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa constructed the Gangotri temple. It is said that the Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal had built the Yamunotri temple in 1919, but it was destroyed by an earthquake. After this Maharani Guleria of Jaipur reconstructed the temple in the 19th century. The real source of Yamunotri is a lake of snow and glacier.
