You must have surely come across that one person who’s strangely obsessive about eating healthy, every time. No delicious snack or any lip-smacking dish can lure them away from their very love for a green diet. Even if they’re somehow being forced to eat something junk, they would take it like a pinch and any bit more might ruin their entire life, it seems.
Honestly, while it is quite a great decision to care about what you eat and how you eat it when these inhibitions and restrictions start taking over your life, it can take a form of a dangerous trend. An international psychologist Sherry Pagoto, shared how ''if a behaviour is so disruptive that it starts to interfere with your work and personal relationships, it could be a sign of a psychological disorder. And our social life is a huge factor in health because that is what helps us relieve stress."
Sometimes this obsession of healthy eating can turn so extreme that it makes people turn down social invitations because they are scared of the fact that healthy food won't be available at the place. Even if they still accept the invite and turn up, they will not look for anything to eat there for the risk of letting the wrong food enter their body. People suffering from Orthorexia just think about picking the right ingredients and shopping for their groceries. Many a time, they just don’t show this trait in front of their family and close friends too, because they don't want to listen to any sort of mocking.
Though this disorder has yet not been tagged as a proper disorder, it can be perceived as a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) because the person is really scared of eating food that will make them unfit or ill. They pay a little too much attention to what the health magazines and experts say about the ideal diet and follow suits.
