You get good marks in West Bengal Higher Secondary exam. Then you apply for a college. You secure good rank in merit list. Then you get admitted to college. No! it’s not that simple in west bengal’s colleges. Student Union’s General Secretary, backed by local political leader is the unofficial principle of college. They have many seats in their hand. They take huge amount of money for admitting students in these seats.
(Accused Members)if you secure a good rank in merit list then there is a high chance that you would get admission with out any difficulty.but if your rank is poor then there is a high chance that that you have to face “dadagiri” from those political student leaders.in many cases students are stopped from entering college at admission day by those student leaders . They demanded huge money from them. in these cases police were just mute spectator.Student with bad rank relay on those student leaders to secure a seat by giving them money. Those student leaders give a part of money to Local Leaders. in exchange they get protection from police.
(Accused political leader)After the start of college they take money from students for Cultural festivals, and other occasions.Average age of these student leaders is nearly 30! Yes! They aren't students anymore. But nobody can remove them from college premises. In 2018 state goverment tried to take some steps against this but they partly succeeded, because this problem is deep rooted. But in 2019 they have to shift entire process online to minimize the chance of corruption.links:
