In a survey of about 843 human resources leaders which was conducted by research company Gartner; it was revealed that 51 percent of the leaders feel that employee’s experience is critical in achieving the organizational objectives.
What is employee experience? How is it important for the organization?
“People make judgments very quickly. From the on boarding process to seeing how managers interact with people, to co-workers — they start pulling these impressions together very quickly,” she says. “It comes down to knowing if what is happening matches up with what they thought was going to happen. And if it doesn’t, then they’re never going to be engaged. Their morale is never going to be high. They’ll never be motivated or loyal because that basic, foundational contract has been broken.”
The journey of an employee is shaped through “a set of perceptions that employees have about their experiences at work in response to their interactions with the organization.” This experience primarily shapes employee engagement with the organization.
How Managers are the driving force behind an employee’s experience:
From pre-hiring to post-exit a manager can play a key role in the growth of the employee. Here is what studies say:
1. The quality of the manager plays an important factor in deciding if one wants to join the organization or not. 2. It has been accepted by employees that they consider their hiring exceptional if the manager was involved in the process. 3. The manager also motivates the employees to perform. It entirely depends on the manager how employees perform and engage in their activities. 4. The retention of the employee is also determined by the role played by the manager. In a study conducted it was found that more than half of the percentage of employees feels that they would have stayed in the organization if their manager would have done something.
From setting targets to achieving them the role of managers is undeniable. If the organization has a good set of leaders it would transform every dimension of the organization. It is thus crucial that hiring at the managerial level is a top priority for the organization.
