Sridevi died after accidentally drowning in her hotel bathtub after losing consciousness, Dubai officials have declared. The post-mortem report does not mention the phrase cardiac arrest, which was earlier blamed for her sudden death that has left India stunned. The Dubai Police is trying to establish the sequence of events before and after she was found unconscious. When she was taken to the al Rashid Hospital, she was dead. Reports say police may question Boney Kapoor, Sridevi's husband, who was the last person to see her alive.A report contradicted that and said that members of service staff at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel discovered her after she did not answer the doorbell. The report quoted a hotel employee as saying that they were the ones who broke open the door of her bathroom and found her lying unconscious on the floor.
Sridevi was in Dubai for a family wedding. She had stayed back even after her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi Kapoor returned to India on February 21. Family sources said Boney flew to Dubai to surprise Sridevi on February 24 with a dinner date. They chatted for some time before Sridevi went to the bathroom to get ready. That was between 5 and 6pm. When she did not come out of the bathroom even after 15 minutes, Boney knocked on the door. When she did not answer, he forced the door open and discovered her unconscious in the bathtub.

Dubai's Khaleej Times reported that Boney Kapoor then called a friend and both of them tried to revive her. They called the police at 9pm. What happened in those almost-four hours is still a mystery and only Boney Kapoor can shed light on that. Here in India, an entire nation waits with the Kapoor family - nearly all of them are film stars - for her body to arrive in Mumbai.Latest reports suggest the body has been sent for embalming after which Sridevi's mortal remains will be flown to Mumbai in a chartered flight sent by family friend and industrialist Anil Ambani.
